Cross the Threshold

After trauma and loss, we instinctively contract to protect ourselves. Yet, sometimes we get stuck, needing help to cross the threshold back into vitality. Together, we'll cultivate an expansive life that integrates all your experiences, fostering deeper meaning and joy.

From Surviving to Thriving

Let’s explore your inner wild.

If you’re feeling stuck—and you want therapy that is not boring, predictable, or patronizing—let’s talk. My practice is for people who crave real change and are willing to get honest, creative, and adventurous in the process.

As the founder of Threshold Psychological Services and an Operation Iraqi Freedom USMC Vet, I specialize in evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy. I work with operators, entrepreneurs, and culture creators who are ready for real change.

Years spent treating Veterans with PTSD and guiding individuals and couples through life’s toughest transitions have shaped my approach: direct, imaginative, and deeply relational. I understand the challenges of recovering from trauma, loss, and morally injurious events, and have a sense of when to be slow and cautious, and when to “take the hill!”

If sitting in an office doesn’t appeal to you, let’s get outside. We can plan an intensive on the Oregon Coast and surf after our sessions. We can do our work on a bikepacking trip in Oregon, California, or Idaho. If you’re Portland-based, we can expand your worldview while walking around Mt. Tabor (Coquine cookie included).

Begin Your Adventure

  • Step into the wild unknown—schedule a call. Bring your questions, hopes, doubts, and any dragons or creepy caves you’re facing. We’ll explore how this process—evidence-based strategies blended with creative exploration—can help you navigate obstacles and move toward the outcomes you want.

  • We’ll explore your terrain, and identify your goals and challenges together. You’ll receive a personalized, evidence-based plan—crafted with both science and soul—to guide your resilience journey.

  • In each session, we’ll combine proven strategies with creative exploration—imaginative play, spiritual inquiry, and practical tools—getting right to the heart of your struggles. The aim: real progress, deeper connection, and a renewed sense of purpose you’ll notice in daily life.

At the Crossroads of Two Diverging Paths

One path keeps you circling old patterns—unaddressed trauma, loss, and moral injury can leave you isolated, disconnected, and stuck. The pain lingers, relationships strain, and your sense of purpose dims. As Richard Rohr has stated, “pain that is not transformed gets transmitted.”

The other path asks for courage. It’s not easy—real change never is. Yet on the far side of the work, you find resilience, deeper connection, and a renewed sense of self. You navigate challenges with clarity. Relationships deepen. You rediscover your wild, creative edge. You reclaim emotional sovereignty.

The choice is yours: remain where you are, or step forward and discover the life you want to show up for.

Your Questions, Answered

  • I do not accept insurance and am not in-network with any insurance panels. I am contracted with the Headstrong Project to offer free therapy to Veterans with PTSD.

  • When using out-of-network benefits payment in full is expected at the time of the session. Reimbursement may then be sought through using out-of-network benefits.

If you are interested in using your out-of-network insurance benefits, contact the number provided under Member Services on the back of your health insurance card.

Below is a list of questions you may wish to ask your insurance company to verify the final cost of psychotherapy services to you:

    • What is the reimbursement rate for out-of-network therapy sessions?

    • Is there a deductible for out-of-network mental health services?

    • Is there an “allowed amount”? (Some insurance companies cap the session fee that they will cover. )

    • How many mental health visits does my policy cover over the calendar year? Is there a limit?

    • Are there any diagnostic restrictions for coverage? Are some diagnoses covered and others are not?

    • Are there any limitations on the number of therapy sessions covered out-of-network?

    • Do I need pre-authorization or a referral from someone in network for out-of-network therapy services?

    • What documentation do I need to submit for reimbursement?

    • What is the process for submitting claims for out-of-network therapy services?

    • How long does it take to receive reimbursement for out-of-network therapy services?

    • Are there any additional resources or support services available to help me navigate my out-of-network benefits for therapy?

    I am happy to provide you with supporting documentation (i.e., a “superbill”) you can then submit to your insurance carrier to seek reimbursement;

  • Yes! Some insurance plans provide a HSA or FSA credit card that you can use to pay for non-covered expenses. If you do not have a card but do have another type of health savings or flexible spending account, I can provide you with an invoice so you can pursue reimbursement.

  • You’re capable. You’ve handled tough things before, and you know how to get things done. Still, there are times when sheer effort and willpower aren’t enough—when you’ve tried every strategy you know, and nothing seems to shift. Maybe you’re caught in a loop of self-judgment, avoidance, or frustration, and you can’t see the way out.

That’s where I come in—not as a fixer, but as your coach, guide, and battle-buddy. Together, we’ll map the territory, break old cycles, and experiment with new approaches. When you’re ready for a teammate who’s as invested in your growth as you are, I’m here—flexible, direct, and fully in your corner.

  • Therapy with me is designed as an active, focused process. We work together in concentrated “treatment episodes”—periods where we tackle your goals head-on, break cycles of avoidance, and build practical skills you can use in daily life. My job is twofold: help you try on new mindsets and behaviors in the safety of our sessions, and help you generalize those skills so you can confidently use them on your own.

Once you’ve gained the tools and confidence to address your concerns independently, we wrap up regular sessions. It is my goal to help you learn skills that continue to serve you long after therapy ends. If you ever want a tune-up or face new challenges, you’re always welcome to return for booster sessions or another focused round of work.

The aim: real change, lasting skills, and the freedom to move forward without needing ongoing therapy.

  • Progress in therapy often shows up in subtle and surprising ways. You might notice yourself responding differently to old triggers, feeling more present in your daily life, or taking actions you once avoided. Sometimes, the work feels energizing; other times, it stirs up discomfort—both can signal growth. I’ll regularly check in with you about what’s shifting, what feels stuck, and what you’re learning. The ultimate sign: you find yourself using new skills and perspectives outside our sessions, and you begin to trust your own ability to navigate challenges, even when things get tough.

  • "You have made a huge difference in my life. You helped me to be more compassionate. You are straightforward without making me feel judged. You infuse difficult sessions with humor and kindness. Thank you for helping me feel safe, valued, and respected. You helped me bushwack a new path to be able to move forward on."

  • "Thank you for the skills, behaviors, and coping mechanisms you have taught me. Today someone in class told me they were impressed with my emotional and communication skills. It was humbling and also exciting to be randomly recognized like that.  I am grateful for the support and care you have provided me. It has led me to developing into someone I can be proud of."

  • "Thank you for being what most people aren't - consistent. You have helped me with the death of my parent, the pandemic, a break up, a move, a serious health crisis. I've admitted some things to you I swore wouldn't leave my brain. You've accepted it all with kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, and no excuses when appropriate. "
